Fringe Frater S/S '11

Fiongal Greenlaw arrived in East London from Cambridge in 2004 when he embarked on his formal education in fashion design at London College of Fashion. He completed his studies in men's wear at Middlesex University where he graduated in 2008. Since then, Fiongal has received acclaim for both his dandyish debut collection The Pop Society, delivered off-season in 2010, and his 'effortlessly cool and individual' surrealist illustrations.

Fiongal's second collection, Fringe Frater  S/S '11 is a playful, sophisticated take on classic masculine styling with emphasis on fine, tailored pieces and clever detailing. In contrast with the quintessential British influences of his first collection The Pop Society,  Fringe Frater  has elements of a youthful 'all-American', preppy aesthetic - combining the slim-line, casual shapes and fabrics of a clean-cut Ivy League look with contrasting grown-up boxy, draped silhouettes of late 80s/ early 90s Italian suiting.

The creation of thrilling texture and tone in this collection is developed with help of Lora Avedian's distinctive embroidered detailing and designer Georgina Bavalia's  expertise on the knitwear. A vibrant palette of cyans and magentas teamed with classic camel and black reveal Fringe Frater as an exciting interpretation of the traditionally sombre facets of men's suiting. The collection demonstrates a trademark elegance and humour that have become Fiongal's calling card and establish the young designer as a star in the making.
